An amazing few days!

It never rains, it pours, or so the old saying goes. Good news has been abounding lately, starting last week with some news that really made our day. My school, Oak Lake Community School, was named the national Green Schools, Green Futures Award winner by FedEx Express Canada and Tree Canada! We’ve been recognized as the greenest school in Canada, and we have been given a $3000 cash prize to support our ongoing environmental initiatives! My Junior and Senior Kindergarten class was especially excited, as they feel they have made a personal contribution to our school’s success with litterless lunches and their attempts to promote sustainable living. However, what we have done as a class is the tip of the iceberg. It is inspiring to be part of a school and community that has made such strides in sustainable practices!

The next piece of exciting news was from Mrs. Obach’s class. The video they created showcasing how they use technology in their classroom was chosen as a grand prize winner in a big technology contest. It’s still a bit hush-hush right now, but stay tuned for more news once the company does their press release. Congratulations to Mrs. Obach and her Grade 1 class–very well-deserved!

And this morning, when I opened my email, I received the very surprising news that I had been selected as ManACE’s (Manitoba Association of Computing Educators) Educator of the Year. I didn’t even know that I had been nominated but I was absolutely thrilled! I’ll post some information about the award as I learn more.
