Hey teachers, we see you and we know that you’re tired and overdone. So are we. But there’s a sparkle of light at the end of the tunnel–spring break is here and we can all take some time to rest and recharge! We invite you to check out our countdown to spring break for some recommendations you might enjoy while you’re on holidays!
5 Books to Read
You might’ve noticed by now that we’re passionate about books and reading–for pleasure and for learning, and also for the big mental health and wellness benefits. So this spring break, we encourage you to dive into a good book!
Here are 5 spring reading recommendations:
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood (fiction)
The Reason You Walk by Wab Kinew (memoir)
Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty (personal development)
Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed (personal development, memoir)
The Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn (super fun, bodice-ripping historical fiction for some light reading)
Plus, you’ll want to get on the waitlist for our April book club; we’ll be reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.
When you order our recommendations through the links on this page, we receive a small portion back to continue building our book club! Thanks for your support!
4 TV Series to Watch
You think we’d be tired of TV after 12 months of a pandemic, but we’re surprisingly not. Here’s Devon’s list of recommended shows to watch this spring break:
📺 Jane the Virgin: hilarious comedy/soap opera spoof that has some of the best characters. So funny but also really touching! Plus, there’s 5 seasons to enjoy! (Netflix)
📺 Virgin River: you’ll smile, you’ll cry, you’ll love the beautiful scenery, relatable characters, and great soundtrack. (Netflix)
📺 A Discovery of Witches: based on the fantastic All Souls trilogy by Deb Harkness, this TV adaptation is dark, beautifully filmed, and dramatic, with a great love story. It’s all about witches, daemons, vampires, and time travel–what’s not to love? (Amazon Prime)
📺 Emily in Paris: from the producer of Sex and the City, this romantic comedy is set in Paris. Great fashion, beautiful scenery, and fun insight into French lifestyles make the single season fly by! Only problem? It’s a single season so far. (Netflix)
3 Affirmations to Repeat
An affirmation is a simple statement you repeat to yourself throughout the day to help overcome challenging thoughts. Repeating an affirmation helps you return to your desired state, encourages you to persevere when things are tough, and supports a positive mindset. Best part? They’re easy and free!
You might use the same affirmations daily or develop different affirmations as events and circumstances arise. At KG Education, we love using affirmation decks to give us new ideas and inspiration for our daily affirmations. Our favourite decks are Love Powered Femme created by Love Powered Co. and I’ve Got What I Need from Delaney Rayne Creates (both Canadian creators).
Here are three affirmations to try:
“May I make the choices that keep me in integrity with my truth and well-being.” – Delaney Rayne Creates
“I am in a temporary situation with temporary problems. I allow myself to believe in the power of healing and change.” – Jay Shetty
“Peace is my power. I am peace. I am grounded. I am centered. I quiet my mind, breathe in deeply, and trust that all is well. I am peace.” – Love Powered Co.
