To prepare for our cookie fundraiser, we read many recipes and learned about procedural texts. Students listened for recipes with bigger amounts of ingredients, so we could make large batches and they were careful to avoid recipes that contained ingredients which students in our school are allergic to. As students decided on the best recipe options, they created a grocery list of ingredients they would need to purchase.
Today we went grocery shopping to get the ingredients for baking our cookies. We read fliers in advance to find out what items we could purchase on sale and tried our best to save as much money as possible for the polar bear adoption fees. At the grocery store, students worked together to fill the cart with groceries, mark items off the list, steer the cart and unload groceries. Then they carefully carried all of our purchases back to the school in reusable bags. I was very proud of my class for their great teamwork and we are all really excited to bake the cookies!
