Reusable Bag Reminder Tags

Our students have continued to develop reusable bag reminders tags as part of our sustainability project. If you’ve read our previous posts, you would know that we’ve encountered some problems along the way. After the students called the police and confirmed that hanging tags from the rearview mirror is illegal, a few adjustments were made to our design and reflected in our criteria. So, instead of hanging reminder tags from the mirror, the students decided that they could be stuck to the dash of vehicles with a suction cup. This picture, shared by a parent, illustrates that they are working well!

The next step: we are getting a lot of requests for reminder tags from family members. As children have spread the word about the project, extended family members and community members are indicating that they would like their own reminder tags. Following a discussion about the materials we use to create the reminder tags and a visit to the recycling depot. we have decided to make future reminder tags from cereal boxes. They won’t be as brightly coloured, but they will be created from reused/recycled materials. Another step is to make our tags available at the check out for customers of our local co-op grocery stores.

The students are really enjoying creating their reusable bag reminder tags, and we are practicing so many important skills: using scissors, printing letters, and creating a visually appealing product that meets pre-set criteria.
