What an exciting day in the HES Grade 1 room! One of our division technicians visited our room today to set up an Xbox Kinect. We only had a short time at the end of the day to try it out, but we are REALLY excited to use the XBox in our classroom.
To get started, we plan to use some of the lesson ideas from Microsoft’s Kinect in Education page at http://www.microsoft.com/education/en-us/products/Pages/kinect.aspx#3 We’d also like to try some digital lessons and activities by connecting with other classrooms using Avatar Kinect and Video Kinect.
I couldn’t stop grinning as I learned to play a game on the Kinect today and this amazing tool has a built in feature that photographs you as you play a game, so you can see below the moment it captured for me! I look pretty funny jumping in the air to launch my raft down a virtual river (unbeknownst to me that I was being photographed), but trying the Kinect for the first time was a big moment for me, so I’m glad it is documented! I am excited to introduce Kinect in the classroom and discover the many educational possibilities for this tool.
