When students researched adopting polar bears through the World Wildlife Fund, they found out that it would cost $40.00 to adopt a polar bear. As a previous post explains, our students had many ideas for solving the problem of getting $40.00. Our first fundraiser is now underway: students opted to start with a cookie sale, since they LOVE to bake! During math class last week, students went through the orders and tallied how many dozen of each type of cookie they would need. It was a big job, but they worked enthusiastically to tally everything up. Counting by 5s, we found out that they had sold a whopping 85 dozen cookies – WOW! It is incredible what an empowered group of little learners can do! Our next challenge will be getting those 85 dozen cookies baked and ready for pickup.
